“With the opening of the Integrative Health Center, we seek to offer complementary services to how people experience medical care in the Rogue Valley,” said William North, CEO for Rogue Community Health. The new patient-centered Integrative Health Center combines conventional medicine with integrative (holistic) approaches to help people reach their healthy, personal best. “Health begins with education and understanding of the factors creating wellness in a person’s life. We want to help people with that awareness so that they become empowered in their own health and well-being,” added North.
With integrative health care, RCH patients are able to access a wide variety of medical, behavioral and holistic (whole person) health services in one location that is more convenient and cost effective. Rogue Community Health’s Integrative Health Center promotes, maintains, and restores wellness through the use of food as medicine, herbal remedies, supplements and education. “We work side-by-side with the patient’s health care provider to help patients set healthy goals,” explains Patrick Gillette, MD, Medical Director for the Center. Dr. Gillette is well-known in the Rogue Valley as a physician as well as for his volunteer work including the Oregon Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association.
Working under the direction of Dr. Gillette is program manager, MariaElena Rockholt, BSN RN. She serves as a holistic health coach working with patients to create health and wellness goals for disease management. “I want to educate and support my clients by working with them to find their inner healer,” says Rockholt. “I support their decisions and work to improve their energy during treatment.” Rockholt is a licensed registered nurse in Oregon with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing.
Chronic health conditions are a concern for many people. Integrative health is an approach that has gathered praise for its efficiency and cost effectiveness. Not only are patients receiving better care, but communities that employ such strategies are also healthier. Numerous studies prove the positive effect of complementary health programs, especially for underserved populations. “Our new Integrative Health Center is ready to offer the benefits of personalized care to Rogue Community Health patients,” said Center Director, Linda Jo Strouse. “We are excited to introduce this concept to our patients, and to welcome everyone in the community to learn more about the services offered at Rogue Community Health,” added Strouse.
Local Soroptimist International Clubs of Ashland, Medford, North Valley, and River Valley through their fundraising at the 2016 Wine Walk for Women’s Health helped fund the Integrative Health Center with a grant to support activities to improve women’s health.
